About Pack 176

Pack 176 was founded in 1960, one of Fremont's longest-established and largest Cub Scout units. Cub Scouts range from Kindergarteners to 5th graders, and our program year follows the academic school year. If you have a child in this age range that is interested in Scouting, we would love to hear from you! We are a co-ed Pack.

Cub Scouts is a family activity designed not only to help develop our young scouts into the best version of themselves, but to also strengthen family and community relationships. Scouting, and Cub Scouting especially, is an organization that is 99.9% run by volunteers just like you. Our Pack prides itself on the active involvement and participation of all parents. Our parents comprise the leadership group of Cubmaster/Assistant Cubmaster, Den Leaders, and Committee Members, and they rely on the contributions of all parents to help plan and deliver an active, fun, and enriching program year-round. All of our registered leaders undergo California-mandated AB506 background checks and fingerprinting, as well as annual Youth Protection Training. Pack 176 prioritizes the safety of scouting in all aspects, and strictly enforces BSA's youth protection protocols.

Cub Scouts are grouped into grade levels, called Dens, to ensure that their adventures are age-appropriate and engaging. Kindergarteners are grouped in the Lion Den, 1st graders in the Tiger Den, 2nd graders in the Wolf Den, 3rd graders in the Bears Den, 4th graders in the Webelos Den, and 5th graders in the Arrow of Light Den. Each year they will work to complete a set of requirements, aptly named Adventures, in order to earn their badge of rank at the end of each program year. Your child may feel free to join Cub Scouts at any time if they are in Kindergarten through 5th grade. If you have a child in 6th to 12th grade, we encourage you to look for a Scouts BSA (formerly "Boy Scouts") Troop in your area that is a good fit for your child's interests.

Pack 176 strives to be an active part of giving back to our community. We participate in the nation-wide Scouting for Food canned food drive in the Fall, and a sock drive to help support the homeless outreach program at Centerville Presbyterian Church in the winter.

We meet monthly for our Pack Meeting (all Dens) on the last Tuesday at 7pm at Centerville Presbyterian Church. Additionally, each Den meets monthly or semi-monthly for Den Meetings - please contact your Den Leader for the location and timing. These meetings occur from August through May, after which the official meetings adjourn for the summer months.

However, in addition to our Pack Meetings and Den Meetings, we have an active outdoor program with (optional) year-round monthly hikes, an annual Howl-o-ween Bonfire in the fall, an annual Winter Overnighter (indoor accommodations), an annual Family Campout in late spring, and professional sporting events in the summer. If you and your child are looking to find new opportunities to explore the great outdoors and learn more about the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace principles, Pack 176 may be a great fit for you!
